Igniting cyber passion at Global Impact Academy

By Candice Biamby and London Murray, Product Security

In celebration of Cybersecurity Awareness Week, the Atlanta Tech Center's cybersecurity team joined forces with the External Community Engagement workstream to inspire young minds at Global Impact Academy (GIA) STEM Magnet High School. Located in Fairburn, GA, GIA is home to 588 bright students from grades 9-12, offering diverse career pathways in advanced math and science, engineering, biotechnology, cybersecurity, game design, computer science and more.

This half-day event featured JPMorganChase’s Cybersecurity and Technology Controls employees sharing their personal journeys into the world of cybersecurity. They discussed the various career paths available to students passionate about the cybersecurity field. Students then participated in a series of engaging breakout sessions that explored the multifaceted domains of cybersecurity, including security engineering, governance, risk and compliance, and cyber operations.

The event was a great opportunity to connect with the next generation of STEM talent. The students of GIA impressed everyone and had so many insightful questions. Our team enjoyed vibrant interactions, including a memorable moment when students were asked about their AI usage, sparking curiosity, confessions and laughter. The students’ enthusiasm and inquisitiveness promise a bright future for the field of cybersecurity and was a nice way to wrap up Cybersecurity Awareness Week here at JPMorganChase.

Promoting online safety for kids and seniors

By Sesh Subramanyan and Venkat Melam, Cybersecurity and Technology Controls

Cybersecurity Awareness Week was organized across India and featured a slate of community engagement events packed with activities on all things cyber, including quizzes and puzzles. Awareness sessions were held for kids and seniors in families of employees. Attended by over 200 participants, the events were developed to enhance cybersecurity awareness and promote safe online practices.

'CyberKids', the session for children aged 12-16, shared crucial information on topics, such as safe browsing, recognizing online threats, and protecting personal information. On the other hand, the ‘CyberSeniors’ session was designed for senior family members, covering practical tips on online security, identifying scams and safeguarding one’s digital footprint.

The sessions provided valuable insights into online dangers, such as cyberbullying and phishing, equipping families to create a secure digital environment. With rising cyber threats targeting the young and elderly, awareness sessions like these are crucial for protecting our families. Cybersecurity starts in the home.
